Feudi di San Gregorio
Feudi di San Gregorio is a large winery of southern Italy, born in Irpinia, but today also present in Basilicata with the Basilisco winery and in Puglia with Ognissole. Feudi di San Gregorio was founded in 1986 in Sorbo Serpico by the Capaldo family and the Ercolino family. The union of these two families gave birth to the Feudi project as an antagonist to the tradition represented up to that time by Mastroberardino. The merit of Feudi di San Gregorio is having given a modern image to the traditional wines of Irpinia and having made them known to the rest of Italy and the world with a targeted and effective commercial operation, without ever giving up the quality of the products.
In Irpinia it owns vineyards in excellent positions in the villages of Sorbo Serpico, Lapio and Summonte. In its 300 hectares of vineyards it cultivates the typical varieties of Irpinia and produces wines under the main Campania appellations with consistency and reliability, recognized by consumers and industry guides. Despite the large numbers, it carefully manages the more than 600 vineyard plots and carries out separate vinification thanks to a significant supply of small vats. The Slow Wine 2021 guide summarizes the production philosophy of Feudi di San Gregorio as follows: "Making simple and easy-to-drink wines, without showing off muscles, to highlight almost Nordic minerality and acidity."
Feudi di San Gregorio collaborates with the University of Taste of Pollenza and has participated in important research on Campania grape varieties with Professor Luigi Moio and with the oenologist Mario Ercolino. It has also started a production of traditional method sparkling wines based on the native Campanian grape varietis with the advice of one of the most prestigious Champagne houses such as that of Anselme Selosse.
In recent times Feudi has also expanded in Tuscany with the Campo alle Comete winery in Bolgheri and in Friuli-Venezia Giulia with the Sirch winery.
