With 300 hectares of vineyards, Belisario is the main winery in the Matelica area in the interior of the Marche region. It is a very high profile cooperative winery, whose name and wines have enjoyed an excellent reputation since its foundation in the 1970s. There are 180 contributing members, each of whom takes care of their vineyard in an impeccable way.
The valley of Matelica is internal to the Apennine chain and separated from them by the Adriatic sea. It is an area historically suited to the cultivation of Verdicchio, distinct from that of the Castles of Jesi for climate and environmental conditions. Belisario has become the largest producer of Verdicchio di Matelica wine and the members have their vineyards mainly in the Upper Esina Valley, where from a climatic point of view, significant daily temperature variations occur and during the day the sun radiates the vineyards in a powerful way. Part of the vineyards are certified organic and in general the vintners work with great attention and respect for the environment and sustainability.
The winery's success is due to an excellent organization and competent staff and the rigor applied at every stage of the production chain from the vineyard to the bottle. The Verdicchio wines from the Belisario winery are awarded every year by Italian wine guides and international wine critics.
