Abbazia di Novacella

The Novella Abbey is first of all a place of worship and spiritual retreat run by the monks of the Order of St. Augustine. It uses the proceeds from the wine production to maintain the Abbey, just as it was in the Middle Ages. The Abbey has been producing wine since the 12th century. It is located in the Isarco Valley north of Bressanone where the northernmost vineyards of Italy are located.
The Isarco Valley is characterized by an alpine climate, but it is also very sunny with hot days in the summer months and temperatures that suddenly drop during the night. A unique feature is the soil, or rather the rock: the vines have their roots in a soil of granite and gneiss, rich in minerals such as quartz and mica.
The Abbey's cellar processes both its own grapes and grapes purchased from local suppliers. It cultivates all the typical varieties of the Isarco Valley, mainly white grapes such as Riesling, Grüner veltliner, Kerner, Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer.
The wines are produced with impeccable techniques and have been at the top of South Tyrolean production for years, as evidenced by the long list of awards received.
