Martell

The Martell distillery was founded by Jean Martell, who came to the region from the British island of Jersey in the 18th century. Today Martell is undoubtedly one of the best known and oldest brands of Cognac, the French brandy produced in the region of the same name. With 3 uninterrupted centuries of experience in the production of fine Cognacs, loved all over the world, Martell is the undisputed leader in Cognac, now owned by the Pernod Ricard group.
Martell Cognacs were loved by the British and Americans and were already exported to China in the 19th century.

Throughout its history, Cognac Martell has been present in glorious moments such as the coronation of King George V in England or on the first Concorde flight from Paris to New York. Although the production is carried out on a large scale, it maintains a character of craftsmanship, made of precision, patience and tradition. The link with the territory makes Martell's production unique, both from the point of view of the origin of the grapes and as regards the sprit’s aging. The limestone soil of the region and the maritime climate due to the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean are not reproducible. In particular, many of the Martell base wines come from the Borderies area, the smallest of Cognac, but considered very valuable due to the presence of silicon in the soil. This results in wines with particularly fine flavors, which are maintained even after distillation. Also for this reason Martell Cognacs have the reputation of being among the smoothest and most elegant.

The distillation is discontinuous and takes place in traditional copper stills and oak barrels from the Tronçais forest are chosen for aging. Once the aging is complete, the Cognacs rests in demijohns, from which they are taken to create the blends from time to time, which originate the prestigious labels of the maison by V.S. at X.O., including limited special editions.
