Alto Adige Lagrein Gries Riserva 2021 Cantina Terlano
Gries is the name of a district of Bolzano, behind the city on the porphyry hills that surround it. It has always been considered one of the magical places for the cultivation of the native Lagrein grape variety. Here, in fact, Lagrein grapes ripen by accumulating sugars, phenols and flavor compounds and turn into full and elegant wines, rich in facets and also capable of evolving over time. Unlike the vineyards of Terlano, here the altitude is only 250 m and the slope is minimal. The subsoil, on the other hand, is the same formation of quartz porphyry of volcanic origin, covered by a very draining alluvial soil.
The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes. After being completely destemmed, the grapes ferment with the skins in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, keeping the must in slight movement. After racking, the wine also carries out malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels. Half of the wine ages in large barrels and half in barriques (of which one third are new). The wood aging lasts one year.
