Banfi is the name of a grand enterprise, with possessions in Tuscany and Piedmont, creator of many successful wines. It all started thanks to the success in the wine trade of the Italian-American Mariani family. John and Harry Mariani, born in the United States, developed the family business, making it the largest Italian wine import company in the USA. In the 1970s they came to Tuscany and acquired land in Montalcino with the aim of producing wines to sell to their customers. Thus was born Castello Banfi in 1978. In addition to wine production, the Mariani brothers also focused on brand management and hospitality, bringing an air of novelty to the Tuscan countryside. Banfi soon became the largest producer of Brunello di Montalcino and is responsible for the success of Brunello in the world.
Their acquisitions in Tuscany lead them to produce a wide range of wines: from everyday wines to Supertuscans, including successful appellations such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, Chianti Classico and Bolgheri. Banfi also owns vineyards in Piedmont with an additional line of typical Dolcetto, Barbera, Asti and Brachetto products.
