List of products by brand Krug
Krug
Krug is a myth. It is one of the most prestigious Champagne houses ever, admired by all aficionados. It was founded in Reims in 1843 by the German Joseph Krug, who initially worked for the Jacquesson maison. Krug's philosophy from the outset is to reject a hierarchy of labels, but each of his Champagne must be of the highest quality, with no compromise; different every year, but every year is the great champagne, the most that can be done for the greatest pleasure; for Krug there are only “cuvée prestige”.
Champagne Krug is the Grande Cuvée, which has always been produced with a rigorous, almost extreme selection of dozens and dozens of base wines, sometimes more than a hundred, even from 10 different vintages, and is aged for at least 7 years. Although not a vintage champagne, each year the Grande Cuvée is a unique project and therefore is numbered (ideally N.1 was the one assembled in 1844). Today a code on the label links to detailed information on the website with all about its composition. The Krug style combines complexity and pleasantness, right maturity and freshness, fruity flavors and tertiary aromas.
In addition to the Grande Cuvée Krug today produces a non-vintage rosé Champagne and in the best years also a vintage Champagne. At the top of the range are two rare Champagnes, each made from a single vineyard enclosed by a wall: one is Clos du Mesnil (Chardonnay) and the other is Clos d'Ambonnay (Pinot Noir).
For 20 years Krug has been in the ownership of the LVMH group, however there is always a descendant of the Krug family in the management, such as Henri Krug until 2007 and now Olivier Krug. Krug owns its own vineyards and also uses grapes from suppliers. The base wines are generally fermented in small oak barrels. In the Krug cellar there are at least over one hundred small steel tanks that store the base wines of over 10 different vintages, others are stored in magnum bottles; the “chef de cave” can make use of these every year for the realization of the cuvée.
