Rum Clément

Rum Clément was the first bottled agricultural rum in Martinique and the success of this product and the birth of the designation of origin for agricultural rums of Martinique is due to the Clément family. The business began in 1887 when Homère Clément bought the farm with the name of Domaine de l'Acajou, or 43 hectares of land planted with sugar cane; from this farm he started making Rum directly from the pure juice of the plant instead of molasses.
In 1923 he was succeeded by his son Charles Clément who first began to bottle agricultural rum in Martinique and also began exporting bottles of agricultural rum from Martinique to France. In 1973 the business passed into the hands of Charles' sons, who export rum to many countries of Europe, North America and South America. In the 1980s the Clément family sold the business to the Hayot group, which continues to spread the Clément brand around the world. The Hayots have invested in production in the name of continuity.
