Friuli Chardonnay 2023

It comes from vineyards in the village of Cormòns in the center of the Collio district, province of Gorizia, one of the most suitable lands in Italy for the production of great white wines. In fact, in the Collio there is a particular, unique terrain, locally called “ponca”. It is a sedimentary flysch formed as a result of a stratification of marl and sandstone, which have incorporated many minerals. The result is brittle calcareous rocks. In addition, the microclimate of the Collio enjoys the protection of the mountains to the north and the maritime influence from the Adriatic Sea to the south. Chardonnay grapes are grown on the south-facing hillsides and ripen perfectly, giving the wines aromas and softness together with the characteristic taste minerality of Collio wines.

The grapes are harvested in the second half of September. They are de-stemmed and left to cold macerate before the start of alcoholic fermentation. They are then gently pressed and the free-run must ferments in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Subsequently the wine ages in contact with the lees in large oak barrels for 6-7 months.
