Friuli Friulano 2023
The most traditional vine variety of Friuli-Venezia Giulia is Tokai Friulano, which, following EU directives, can only be called “Friulano” since 2007. It is so loved by Friulians that there is the proverb "Cul Tocai a sparissin duc’i mai", that is, with Tocai all evils disappear. It is present throughout the region except the Karst, it ripens early, has small berries with a thin skin. Wines made with Friulano grapes are generally fine and delicate with hints of almond, on the palate they have good alcohol and body.
The Friulano harvest takes place at the end of September. The de-stemmed grapes are left to cold macerate to facilitate phenolic and aromatic extraction from the skins. The free-run must ferments at a controlled temperature in steel vats and the wine ages in steel for 6 months on its own lees.
