Collio white wines emerged on the national market from the 1970s and 1980s, appreciated for their precision, structure and quality. They have represented a model for the production of white wines. In the Collio we can find local varieties including Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana, Picolit, as well as international varieties introduced during the Austrian rule. The vinification style includes monovarietal wines, the great fresh and delicate Ribolla Gialla wines, the stronger and more mineral and at times long-living Friulano, sharp Sauvignon or warm, enveloping and round Pinot Gris. But Collio Bianco, with no other specification, is always the result of a blend of different varieties, and is always a full-bodied wine with personality. The most evolved versions are structured wines with the potential for evolution. The wines of Colli Orientali del Friuli follow the same philosophy.
