Brunello di Montalcino 2018
Fattoria dei Barbi has been producing the blue label Brunello di Montalcino for over a century. Bottles of the historic vintage of 1892 are still preserved in the cellar. Without a doubt, it is one of the most popular Brunellos of all time. The vineyards of the Fattoria dei Barbi extend on the southern slope of Montalcino, facing south, between 300 and 500 m above sea level and have soil rich in galestro (friable clayey rock) and alberese (limestone).
The grapes are completely de-stemmed and crushed and immediately cooled before the start of alcoholic fermentation. This favors the extraction of color and phenols from the skins. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature with 16-17 days of total skin-contact. Finally, the wine is aged in barrels of different sizes for more than 2 years.
