Fattoria dei Barbi, belonging to the Cinelli-Colombini family, was a pioneer of Brunello di Montalcino like Biondi Santi. They only had different commercial vision, because while Biondi Santi has always thought that Brunello was an exclusive wine and should be placed on the market at high prices, Fattoria dei Barbi wanted to make Brunello as accessible as possible, to increase fame and demand.
Fattoria dei Barbi has been producing and exporting Brunello di Montalcino since the second half of the 1800s and its wines are well known throughout the world. In the 1800s they were forerunner creating even mail order sales of their Brunello wines. Fattoria dei Barbi has always maintained a traditional style, which means aging Brunello in big barrel.
The Cinelli Colombini are a historic family of Tuscany, present in Val d'Orcia since the 14th century; since 1790 Fattoria dei Barbi on the southern slope of Montalcino has delivered wine and other agricultural products from their land. As a testimony to their legacy and history of the territory, Stefano Cinelli Colombini, the current owner, created within the estate a museum of Montalcino, to which almost all Brunello producers contributed.
Fattoria dei Barbi owns land in Montalcino and Maremma, in the area Scansano. In all they manage 100 hectares of vineyard and produces 600,000 bottles a year.
