Rosso di Montalcino 2020
The Rosso di Montalcino appellation is a brilliant idea. In fact, the wine is made with the same grapes as Brunello, from the same vineyards as Brunello and with a production process similar to Brunello. But it is not aged as long as Brunello and has a less complex structure. It turns out a wine that has all the flavor and charm of Montalcino, in a simplified version, but no less satisfying. Indeed, if drunk in youth, it can give great satisfaction. For its Rosso di Montalcino Fattoria dei Barbi chooses the grapes of the younger vines, which give fragrant but less full-bodied and less tannic wines than Brunello. The grapes come from the vineyards of the Fattoria dei Barbi at 400-500 meters above sea level on the southern side of Montalcino; the soil is made up of clay and marl.
The grapes ferment in steel vats at a controlled temperature with a total maceration of 12-13 days. The wine also carries out malolactic fermentation and is aged half in steel and half in large oak barrels for 6 months.
