Brandy is none other than a spirit distilled from wine that can be produced anywhere in the world. It goes without saying that if a country produces wine, it can produce brandy. In actual fact, the first producers were the Mediterranean countries, i.e. France, Spain, Italy and Greece. France then protected its most famous French brandies with territorial names: Cognac and Armagnac. The other countries have continued to use the term, Brandy. Brandy always has an amber or golden colour, usually due to being aged in wooden casks, but some Brandies are also obtained simply by adding caramel. Brandy is an excellent accompaniment to a cigar or to dark chocolate and is served after a meal as a digestif. Italy produces fine brandies. Isn’t Vecchia Romagna, for example, a name everyone knows?
