One of the main liquor houses in Japan was born from the desire of Shinjiro Torii to create a Whisky in line with the refined and delicate taste of Japanese gastronomic culture. After over 20 years of commercial experience in the world of alcoholic beverages, in 1923 Torii founded the Yamazaki distillery, near Kyoto and it was the first distillery in the country. The first Whiskey produced was called Suntory Shirofuda, but success came with the second Whiskey, Suntory Kakubin.
Suntory became the brand of Japanese Whiskys, spread through a series of bars that Shinjiro Torii opened in various cities of Japan, creating a fashion for this spirit.
Since the 1970s, the business has developed with continuous growth, that has made Suntory a giant in the world of alcoholic beverages and beyond. He founded other distilleries such as Chita and Hakushu and in the 1980s, iconic labels such as Yamazaki and Hibiki were born, and then others in the following years, which conquered the palate not only of Japanese but of all Whisky enthusiasts in the world.
The production philosophy is inspired by the Scottish tradition, but rather than emulating it, it embodies its spirit through the territory and the Japanese culture.
