Turriga 2019
It is the most important wine of the Argiolas winery and is one of the most significant wines of Sardinia. It is an essential wine if you want to learn the Sardinian wine identity. It expresses in a modern key the essence of the Mediterranean territory of southern Sardinia, where the heat of the sun and the winds that blow from the sea determine unique climatic conditions. Turriga has been produced since 1988 with 4 native Sardinian vine varieties, grown on Argiolas’ Sa Tanca estate, between the villages of Selegas and Guamaggiore. The vineyards extend over gentle hills between 250 and 350 meters above sea level with mixed soil between brown earth and white limestone. Turriga was one of the first successful modern red wines, to make the island's potential known throughout Italy and around the world. It is a wine developed by the great enologist Giacomo Tachis, the same one who had signed wines such as Tignanello, Sassicaia and Solaia in Tuscany.
The harvest is manual. A careful selection identifies only the best bunches. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with maceration on the skins. The wine is then drawn off and poured into concrete tanks where the malolactic fermentation takes place. Finally it ages in French barriques for 18 months.
