Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Bianchi Grilli per la Testa 2020
Torre dei Beati’s Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is an original interpretation of Trebbiano abruzzese in purity. In fact, in Abruzzo two varieties of Trebbiano coexist: the Tuscan one, much more frequent but neutral in aromas, and the Abruzzese one, less cultivated but more fragrant. In their vineyard at 300 m above sea level Trebbiano Abruzzese is not cultivated with the traditional pergola, but with guyot and high planting density. Furthermore, after a selection, the grapes are subjected to prolonged cryomaceration and a long aging on the lees. The idea of this experimental vinification inspired the name “Grilli per la Testa” (literally crickets in my head, to mean something unusual and original).
The harvest is manual and a selection of the best bunches is made in the cellar. The grapes are cold macerated on the skins for 3-4 days. Subsequently, the free-run must ferments in steel vats at a controlled temperature. A small part ferments in small acacia barrels. At the end of fermentation, the wine ages for one year on the lees in the same containers (steel vat and acacia barrel). It ages 8 more months in the bottle.
