Amarone della Valpolicella Selezione Antonio Castagnedi 2019
Antonio Castagnedi is the father of the estate’s owners and they wanted to dedicate this Amarone to him, as if it were the family selection. It comes from grapes grown in the hills of eastern Valpolicella in the municipality of Mezzane di Sotto in the Monti Garbi area, on top of a hill of 300 meters above sea level. Mezzane di Sotto is an emerging territory of Valpolicella that has attracted many producers in recent years. The soil is mainly sandy and silty with a lot of limestone and gives freshness and longevity to the wines. The vineyards of Tenuta Sant’Antonio have a high density plant, up to 8000 vines per hectare.
After a double selection, the best grapes are left to dry for 3 months. In December they are crushed and fermented in steel vats at a controlled temperature with selected yeasts. Maceration lasts for 25 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 500-liter barrels. The wine ages for two years in new French oak tonneau.
