Sassoalloro 2022
Sassoalloro is the most significant wine of Jacopo Biondi Santi's venture at Castello di Montepò. It is made with the same Sangiovese clone as Brunello di Montalcino from Tenuta Greppo, namely Sangiovese grosso (BBS11). In this case, however, Sangiovese grosso grows in a warmer territory and is interpreted in a more modern key. It’s meant to be a fascinating and immediately enjoyable wine, without being austere like the traditional Brunello. The Sassoalloro vineyards have a marl soil and are exposed to the west and south-west, towards the sea, which is only about twenty kilometers away.
The harvest takes place at the end of September and the grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in steel vats. The wine ages in French oak barrels for 14 months.
