Jacopo Biondi Santi - Castello di Montepò
The reputation of the Biondi Santi family is immense and Jacopo Biondi Santi signs with his name the wines made in Maremma on the Castello di Montepò estate.
The name Biondi Stanti is intimately connected with Montalcino and its Brunello wine. If Tenuta Greppo in Montalcino is a bulwark of tradition, the Biondi Santi family with Jacopo and his children also wanted to experiment with new paths.
Jacopo brought the Sangiovese from Tenuta Greppo to Castello di Montepò in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma on the northern slope of the Scansano hill, where he could make modern wines, using French barriques and also international vine varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Castello di Montepò has a medieval origin and is steeped in history. The property extends for 550 hectares of woods and crops, among which there are 50 hectares of vineyards between 300 and 460 meters. It is an environment suited to viticulture, where the Etruscans were the first to make wine. But today the Jacopo Biondi Santi estate looks to the future, offering a range of contemporary wines, thanks to the experience that has determined the success of Brunello di Montalcino.
