Montessu 2020
Montessu red wine from the Agripunica winery is a modern and appealing interpretation of a powerful and energetic territory like that of Sulcis. The idea behind Montessu is to convey the typical taste of Carignano grown in the Sulcis by blending it with more well-known varieties such as the great international grapes of French origin. The most important share (60%) is left to the autochthonous Carignano and the territorial imprint is the true marker of the wine. The Sulcis extends in the south-western extremity of Sardinia and enjoys a magnificent brightness thanks to the proximity of the sea. Sunshine and heat allow excellent ripening of the black berried varieties with naturally contained yields; furthermore, the soil with sand, clay and limestone contributes to the well-defined and intense character of the wines.
The harvest is manual and takes place between mid-September and mid-October, separately for each grape variety. Wine making is also separated with fermentation in steel tanks at a controlled temperature and a maceration of 12-15 days. The wines remain separated by grape variety until the end of wood-aging, which takes place in French oak barriques for 12 months. Once the blend is finally created, the wine rests 40 days in a concrete tank before being bottled.
