Agripunica

Agripunica was founded in 2002 thanks to the intuition of the great winemaker Giacomo Tachis. In the early 1970s Tachis became known for signing with his name wines such as Sassicaia (for Tenuta San Guido) and Tignanello (for Antinori). On the strength of these successful wines, he worked as a consultant for some wineries and had gained experience in Sardinia. He had the idea to enhance the Sulcis territory in the south-west of Sardinia by bringing a new mindset, the same one that originated so many Supertuscan wines in Tuscany.
Agripunica is a joint venture among several partners including the Sardinian winery Santadi, Tenuta San Guido and Tachis himself.
What attracted Tachis to undertake this project was the peculiarity of Sulcis territory, that overlooks the open sea to the south and west and so benefits from an incredible brightness; sunlight is a key factor for grapes’ ripening. Furthermore, the proximity of the sea mitigates the climate thanks to the constant sea breezes and this is another fundamental factor for the quality of the flavors and the precious acidity that accumulate in the grapes.
Agripunica bought a company with 70 hectares of vineyards in southern Sardinia in two areas: Barrua and Narcao both in Sulcis. Tachis' idea was to use native or traditional varieties mainly and to vinify them in a modern way and integrate them with a part of international varieties, as he had done with Tignanello in Tuscany. The first wine produced by Agripunica was Barrua and was immediately appreciated. Today Agripunica produces 300,000 bottles a year.
