Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso 2021
According to a legend, the vines were born on Vesuvius following the tears shed by Jesus, who could not resist the emotion of seeing the beauty of the Gulf of Naples. It is said that Jesus recognized a part of Paradise in the Gulf of Naples. The more structured wines within the Vesuvius DOC are therefore awarded the term "Lacryma Christi". Vesuvius is the largest active volcano in continental Europe. The vines are cultivated on its slopes on a soil formed by disintegrated lava. They are not very fertile soils, but rich in minerals, which give finesse to the wines.
The red wine Lacryma Christy by Feudi di San Gregorio is obtained from the union of two indigenous grape varieties different from each other: Aglianico and Piedirosso. Aglianico gives wines of great structure with important tannins, while Piedirosso is smoother and more fruity. The blending of the two is very frequent in Campania because it produces balanced and complete wines.
The grapes ferment with the skins in steel vats at a controlled temperature with 2-3 weeks of maceration. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation too and ages in steel vats for a few months before being bottled.
