Sirica Campania IGT 2018
Sirica red wine is very original; it derives from a collaboration of Feudi San Gregorio with the universities of Milan and Naples. Plants of an ancient Campania variety, called Sirica, which have almost disappeared, have been identified; after having reproduced them in an experimental vineyard, Feudi di San Gregorio with grapes of this variety has made a wine with a modern taste. From the genetic point of view, the Sirica grape has similarities with a group of successful grape varieties from northern Italy and France: Teroldego, Refosco and Syrah. Sirica is a very different red wine from most Aglianico-based reds from Campania.
The grapes are crushed and fermented with the skins in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Maceration lasts up to 3 weeks. The wine also carries out malolactic fermentation and ages in French oak barriques for a year.
