Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Bianco 2022
The peculiarity of the Lacryma Christi Bianco wine is the vineyard’s soil covered with volcanic ash. They are in fact found on the slopes of Vesuvius at 170 m above sea level and are cultivated with the native variety Coda di Volpe. Coda di volpe generally gives smooth wines with good structure, but in the case of volcanic soil it takes on a subtle and elegant personality.
The evocative name Lacryma Christi refers to a legend: Jesus recognized a piece of Paradise in the Gulf of Naples, that Lucifer had torn up on his descent to Hell. From the emotion of this vision he wept and where his tears fell, the vineyards were born.
Grapes are harvested by hand in the first half of October. Only the free-run must ferments in steel vats at a controlled temperature.
