Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia 2020

More than a wine, a myth. Ornellaia is the flagship wine of the Frescobaldi estate. It was born as an élite wine and contains all the richness that the Bolgheri territory transmits to the grapes. It is the result of a variable blend of 4 Bordeaux varieties, grown on the first hills overlooking the sea. The proximity of the sea mitigates the climate and creates a reflection of light, which contributes to the perfect ripening of the grapes. The temperature range between day and night, determined by the sea breezes, favors the accumulation of flavor compounds and precious acidity in the berries.

The use of oak barrels gives the wine structure and aromatic richness, smoothing out any roughness. Ornellaia is able to withstand long aging and to surprise every time a bottle is uncorked.

The bunches pass through a double sorting table before being crushed. Fermentation takes place in steel vat at a controlled temperature with a subsequent maceration of about 15 days. The wine is transferred to barriques, 70% new; malolactic fermentation takes place and the aging phase begins. After 12 months, the final blend is made and the wine is moved back into barrique for 8 more months. Finally, the wine ages in the bottle for one more year before being put on the market.
