Bolgheri Rosso Il Seggio 2020

Il Seggio is an exemplary Bolgheri Rosso, a succesful balance among 4 Bordeaux grape varieties that produces an intense and satisfying sip, but at the same time supple and easy to drink. The grapes are harvested in two different vineyards, one closer to the coast with clayey-sandy soil rich in magnesium and iron, the other closer to the hills with sandy soil rich in stones. Both vineyards have been designed with high planting density as suggested by modern agronomic practices to maximize quality by concentrating yields per plant. The name Il Seggio derives from the main stream in the township of Castagneto Carducci which sources from the metalliferous hills and crosses the Bolgheri territory before reaching the sea. It testifies to the origin of the minerals present in the Bolgheri vineyards. Both vineyards enjoy a microclimate favorable to the perfect ripening of the grapes both thanks to the average temperatures and to daylight hours due to the proximity of the sea. In addition, the temperature range between night and day is ideal for the accumulation of aromatic substances and to ensure a good level of organic acids that make Bolgheri wines pleasantly fresh.

The harvest and vinification is separate for each grape variety. The grapes are de-stemmed and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with temperature control. Maceration with the skins lasts an average of 12 days. After racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrique and ages for 15 months in French oak barriques of which 30% are new.
