Poggio al Tesoro is an important and reliable Bolgheri winery. It belongs to the Allegrini family, former wine producers in Valpolicella and was founded in particular by Walter Allegrini in the early 2000s.
The vineyards were planted in 2003 after a careful study of the land in order to grow each variety in the best plot. The grape varieties are those that excel in Bolgheri: Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Merlot and to a lesser extent Petit verdot, Syrah, Viognier and Vermentino.
The vineyards are in 4 different locations, some closer to the hills, others closer to the sea. Even if the distances are minimal, there are variations in the composition of the soil; sometimes it is more sandy, others more clayey, moreover the presence of minerals varies, which in some cases color the earth red thanks to the concentration of iron oxide. Poggio al Tesoro produces an articulated range of labels including whites, rosés and reds and even a sweet wine. They are all successful labels, with a modern conception, like all Bolgheri wines. The wines of Poggio al Tesoro have the merit of smoothness and elegance and communicate their place of origin sip by sip: the Tuscan coast. Poggio al Tesoro produces about 500,000 bottles a year from 70 hectares of owned vineyards.
