Barolo Bussia Vigna Colonnello 2014
Vigna Colonnello is a beautiful and famous 1 ha vineyard in a basin near the BussiaSoprana on the border with the village of Barolo. Among the additional geographical mentions of Barolo, Bussia has particular popularity and charm, it was the first to appear on a Barolo label in 1961 and is the most extensive and well-known mention of the village of Monforte d'Alba. From one of the main vineyards in the Bussia area, namely Vigna Colonnello, Prunotto produces its Riserva, its most important Barolo. The location of the vineyard on the border between the townships of Barolo and Monforte also translates into a harmonious and complete style of Barolo, has the strength of the Nebbiolo di Monforte and the elegance of those of Barolo. The cooler 2014 vintage made it possible to prolong the ripening of the grapes and to benefit from the sunny days of September and October. The harvest of the Vigna Colonnello grapes took place on 9 October and the result after a long aging is truly surprising, bringing to mind the most elegant and long-lived Barolos of the past.
The grapes are only partially de-stemmed. They ferment in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with a short maceration. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 36 months in large French oak barrels. It ages two more years in the bottle before being put on the market.
