Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Sanct Valentin 2022
It is an elegant and complex wine with an off-dry taste thanks to a low level of residual sugar, produced with the choice of the best Gewürztraminer grapes grown by the members of the San Michele Appiano winery in various areas of South Tyrol, in particular in the villages of Cortaccia, Caldaro and Appiano on the right bank of the Adige river. The vineyards are located at altitudes varying between 300 and 500 meters with gravelly and clayey soil and are exposed to the south-east. Gewürztraminer is a typical grape variety of Alto Adige and perhaps the most characteristic on this side of the Adige, in fact it is said to originate from Tramin, which is located between Cortaccia (Kurtatch) and Caldaro (Kaltern). It is the most aromatic grape variety and in the mountain area it benefits from significant daily temperature variations which favor the development of flavor compounds and make the wine smell pronounced and penetrating.
The harvest is manual in mid-September. The best grapes are selected, which after a soft pressing macerate cold with the skins to extract the maximum of aromas. The alcoholic fermentation of the free-run must takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature and the wine ages in steel for a few months until bottling.
