Talisker distillery is located on the Isle of Skye and was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill; today it is part of the brands distributed by Diageo. The Whiskey Talisker was a favorite of writer Louis Stevenson, who had also praised it in one of his poems. It is a renowned and appreciated brand for its strongly peaty style and almost salty taste. In 1960 a fire destroyed the distillery, which had to be rebuilt. In the reconstruction the original structure was recreated based on 5 stills, two of which are used for the first distillation and the other three for the second distillation. These are traditional stills, the only change made in the 70s was the adoption of steam heating.
