Podere 414

The Podere 414 farm takes its name from the farm number assigned by the agrarian reform of 1960. It was founded in 1998 by the famous oenologist Maurizio Castelli and is now managed by his son Simone. Maurizio Castelli is considered one of the most important oenologists of the Tuscan wine renewal of the 80s and 90s and is linked to important brands of Chianti Classico and Montalcino among other. For him Podere 414 was almost a challenge to demonstrate the still unknown potential of the territory of the Tuscan Maremma. In fact, the Maremma is characterized by its uncontaminated lands, partly reclaimed at the beginning of the twentieth century, between the sea of the Tyrrhenian coast and the hills up to Monte Amiata. It is an arid and hot area, which still has a tradition of ancient wines; proof of this is the Morellino di Scansano DOCG. In fact, Morellino, which is nothing more than the local synonym of Sangiovese, is one of the most cultivated grape varieties by Podere 414 together with other local grapes such as Ciliegiolo, Alicante, Colorino and Aleatico. The 22 hectares of vineyards of Podere 414 are located in the surroundings of Magliano in Toscana and are cultivated organically.
