Lagavulin was born as a clandestine distillery on the island of Islay in the first half of the 18th century. John Johnson was the official founder of the legal business in 1816; on his death the distillery was acquired by Alexander Graham.
The working method of the distillery has never changed and each process takes a long time. Today Lagavulin is one of the most visited and photographed distilleries in Scotland thanks to its picturesque location by the sea.
