CARIBBEAN ISLAND OF SUGAR CANE AND RUM
On the small island of Trinidad and Tobago, off the coast of Venezuela, the Spanish, French and British left traces of their domination. The British, in particular, developed the cultivation of sugar cane for the production, on the Caribbean island, of both sugar and rum. The production of rum in the late 19th century was significant, with a supply chain made up of distilleries and bottlers.
Today, only one distillery has survived on the island: Angostura, the second most productive in the Caribbean, equipped with modern column stills. Angostura continues to sell most of the Rums it produces to bottlers and blenders, who market them under different brand names, often in other countries, such as Kraken Black Spiced Rum, which is bottled and distributed by the American importer and distributor, Proximo Spirits.
