Tignanello 2020 Magnum

The wine takes its name from a beautiful vineyard in San Casciano Val di Pesa (Florence) facing south-west with calcareous and tufaceous soil; the stones brought to the surface reflect the sunlight over the plants and grapes. The view is the enchanting one of the Chianti Classico, made up of farmhouses, woods and white roads. Tignanello wine was born in 1970 as Chianti Classico Riserva with the blend used at the time: in addition to Sangiovese and Canaiolo, it contained white grapes (Trebbiano and Malvasia). But the following year Antinori rebelled against tradition, adopting international varieties in the blend with Sangiovese; Tinganello had to leave the Chianti Classico appellation and be labeled just as table wine. It is actually one of the first "Super Tuscans", those wines of character and elegance that aim for excellence. In fact, it was the Sassicaia winemaker himself, Giacomo Tachis, who made Tignanello. Tignanello is the first modern Tuscan wine, the first Sangiovese aged in French oak barriques (one year); it is worked with the utmost care to respect the qualities of the grapes and produce an elegant result. The care of the vineyard is also modern, with high planting intensity and low yields per plant, to maximize the extractive substances in the must. All the winemaking activities are carried out with the same care and attention to achieve the goal of elegance.

Tignanello, in addition to being an indisputable point of reference, has changed the history of Tuscan wine. It is one of the best known and most appreciated Italian wines in the world. It is mainly composed of Sangiovese (80%) to which Cabernet gives a characteristic exotic touch.

The grapes ferment in conical steel vats with punching down at controlled temperature. The malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrique and the wine is subjected to an oak aging for 15 months in partially new French and Hungarian oak barriques. It ages another year in the bottle before leaving the cellar.
