Sicilia Nero d’Avola – Cabernet sauvignon Hugonis 2019
Hugonis is one of the top wines of the winery, obtained with a blend of equal parts of the best Nero d'Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon of the estate. It represents the attempt to combine the most important and characteristic black grape variety of Sicily with the most famous black grape in the world: a brilliant way to make everyone appreciate Sicilian wine. In fact Hugonis is a full-bodied and evolved red of great charm, immediately understandable and appreciable thanks to its roundness, its intense and generous aroma. The grapes come from the village of Camporeale, in particular from hilly vineyards between 300 and 400 meters above sea level with clayey soil. The Rapitalà estate founded by the Count of Gatinais has been able to give a change to Sicilian enology and the red Hugonis was one of its winning products, to be proud of also for having brought Sicilian wine to the fore.
The harvest takes place at full ripeness in mid-September separated by grape variety. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with long macerations on the skins. Cabernet Sauvignon ages in French oak small barrels while Nero d'Avola ages in large oak barrels. After one year of aging in wood, the blend of the two wines is created and it ages for 3 more months in large barrels before being bottled.
