Founded by the Gatinais family of French origins in 1968 in Camporeale in the province of Palermo, Tenuta Rapitalà is a popular large Sicilian winery. Its birth actually coincides with the reconstruction of an existing cellar that was destroyed by the Belice earthquake.
Today the management of the activities is in the hands of Laurent, son of the founder, the count de la Gatinais and his wife Gigi Guarrasi from Palermo.
There are over 160 hectares of vineyards belonging to Teneuta Rapitalà in western Sicily between Camporeale and Alcamo and total production amounts to 2.6 million bottles a year.
The vineyards extend in a hilly area between 300 and 600 meters above sea level with clayey and sandy soil. As the altitude, exposure and nature of the soil vary, ideal conditions arise for the cultivation of many grape varieties.
The estate’s name derives from the Rapitalà stream that flows between the vineyards and its etymology derives from the Arabic "Rabidh-Allah", or the river of Allah. The wines of Tenuta Rapitalà have maintained a constant quality over the years which has allowed customer loyalty. The winery has equipped itself with the best technologies available nowadays for a precise and modern wine making.
The production range includes all types based on both local grape varieties and international varieties, which have been experimented with considerable success in Sicily since the 1980s. Today Tenuta Rapitalà has become part of the Italian Wines Group.
