Sfursat Carlo Negri 2019
Carlo Negri was the founder's son, who passed away in 1977, but was responsible for the winery's great success. This Sforzato di Valtellina is dedicated to him, a wonderful wine, with a robust structure and ample aromas, destined for a long aging. The Sforzato di Valtellina Carlo Negri is produced with Nebbiolo grapes (locally called Chiavennasca) grown on the terraces of the Rhaetian side of the Valtellina. The altitude of the vineyards varies from 300 to 550 meters above sea level and they face south. The soil is poor, made up of sand of morainic origin and the subsoil is granite rock. In these conditions Nebbiolo develops its most elegant side. The Nino Negri winery began producing Sforzato as early as 1956 by means of a slow drying of the grapes caused by the wind blowing in the valley. The wine is thus particularly concentrated and rich.
After the harvest, the grapes are laid and left to dry in a closed room, called the fruit cellar, for about 3 months. They are then vinified in steel vats at a controlled temperature with a prolonged maceration on the skins. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for over a year in oak barrels.
