That of Nino Negri is the largest winery in Valtellina and is a very reliable brand, loved by consumers. The business is part of the Gruppo Italiano Vini and its history is rooted in the territory of the province of Sondrio. It was founded in 1897 in Chiuro by the Nino Negri family and in 1927 it began to bottle wine on its own, instead of selling it in bulk.
From 1971 to 2018, Casimiro Maule from Trentino, considered one of the greatest Italian oenologists, directed the operations in the cellar and brought Nino Negri wines to international success. In particular, a wine is the flagship of the winery's production: the Sfursat 5 Stelle.
This wine has made the potential of this territory known to the whole world: a dry, rich and powerful wine, produced with dried Nebbiolo grapes after an aging in barrique. The range of Nino Negri wines today is varied and includes all types of Valtellina wines including sub-areas and some crus, that is, single vineyard wines. The winery owns 21 hectares of vineyards and manages another 14 for rent; however Nino Negri also has many grape suppliers. In total, it manages to produce 800,000 bottles a year, which for a small area like Valtellina is a very important figure.
