Montefalco Sagrantino 2012 (magnum)
Montefalco Sagrantino Còlpetrone comes from the center of Umbria, in the area where the Sagrantino grape is historically present, considered the richest in tannins among the Italian grape varieties. In fact, Sagrantino is not widespread throughout the region, but only in the hilly area halfway between Perugia and Terni, where the famous towns of Bevagna and Montefalco (which gives the name to the appellation) are located.
The grapes from the Gualdo Cattaneo area in the province of Perugia are harvested at the end of September. The wine ferments in steel vat at a controlled temperature with daily pumping over. At the end of fermentation it still remains a little in contact with the skins. Then the wine is placed in French oak barrique where the malolactic fermentation takes place and ages for a period of 12 months. Then aging goes on in the bottle.
