Merlino 21/08 Rosso Fortificato
Merlino 21/08 is made from partially fermented must of Lagrein grapes, with the addition of brandy made from Schiava and Lagarino grapes. 21/08 indicates the vintage of Lagrein (2021) and the vintage of Brandy (2008).
The Lagrein grapes are harvested very ripe. After destemming, they are cold macerated in order to increase the aromatic extraction. Fermentation is stopped when an alcohol volume of approximately 4/5% is reached. At this point, the brandy is added, mixing so that there is no burning (i.e. wine burn) and the alcohol content is raised to around 20%. The product is put to rest in the same casks where the brandy used to be and is bottled after about 8/10 months, once clarification has been achieved.
