Manzoni Bianco 2019
The grape variety called Manzoni bianco is a cross between Riesling and Pinot bianco, created by Professor Luigi Manzoni at the Enological School of Conegliano in the first half of the twentieth century. This variety, which took the name of its inventor, has been successful and has spread to various areas of northern Italy. It has the mineral base and acidity of Riesling but is gentler and more fragrant like Pinot Blanc. The wines are always rich in structure and personality. The Collato’s vineyards with Manzoni bianco are located on the first hills on the left bank of the Piave river in the province of Treviso.
The grapes are crushed and left to cold macerate for a few hours with the skins. After which they are pressed and the free-run must ferments in steel vats at a controlled temperature. The wine ages in steel in contact with the fine lees for a few months.
