Lugana 2022
The Lugana DOC appellation includes only white wines produced with the indigenous Turbiana grape. They are the most exported Italian white wines to Germany, as the tourists of Garda, mainly German, fall in love with them. In reality, Lugana is an important Italian white wine with a recognizable personality, given by a unique territory. The proximity of Lake Garda in fact creates a mild microclimate all year round, so much so that lemons and olive trees also grow in the area. The soil is a compact white clay, which becomes very muddy when wet and extremely hard when dry. A difficult terrain to work but congenial to the production of healthy and concentrated grapes. The Ottella winery's approach is to use modern winemaking techniques with the aim of bringing out the link between the wine and the territory of origin of which the Turbiana grape is the interpreter.
The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes in the last days of September. After a delicate pressing, the must is left to clear up by natural cold decanting. Then begins the alcoholic fermentation without skins in stainless steel vats at low temperature. The wine ages for 5 months in steel in contact with the fine lees.
