Lacryma Christi Rosso del Vesuvio 2022
Mastroberardino’s Lacryma Christi Rosso comes from the slopes of Vesuvius, where the vineyards have a soil of volcanic origin, formed following the past eruptions of the volcano. It is produced with 100% Piedirosso, also known as "per'e palummo" or foot of pigeon for the reddish color of the upper part of the stalk. It is the most common grape in the province of Naples where it grows on warm volcanic sands and originates wines with delicate tannins.
Lacryma Christi is a superior typology within the Vesuvius DOC and refers to a legend: Jesus recognized a piece of Paradise in the Gulf of Naples, which Lucifer had torn up on his descent to Hell. From the emotion of this vision he wept and where his tears fell, the vineyards were born.
Grapes are hand-picked in mid-October. They ferment in steel vats with maceration on the skins without any aging in wood.
