Gattinara Tre Vigne 2018
Gattinara Tre Vigne responds to the desire to create a complex wine that brings together the specific characters of various vineyards. Ghe grapes from the three historic vineyards of Travaglini are chosen. The vineyards are all hilly mainly facing south and have soil rich in porphyry and mineral elements, due to the volcanic origin. In particular, the Lurghe vineyard has a greater presence of clay, which gives Nebbiolo a darker color and fuller body; the Permolone vineyard is more rocky and favors complexity; finally the Alice vineyard, higher and cooler, guarantees elegance. Moreover, complexity is also considered in the choice of woods for aging, using a mix of large and small barrels.
The grapes ferment in steel tanks at a controlled temperature with 15-18 days of maceration. The wine ages for 40 months in large Slavonian oak barrels; however, some of the wine ages for one year in small barrels.
Color: bright garnet red.
Bouquet: raspberry jam, rhubarb, licorice, spices, coffee, chocolate.
Taste: full-bodied, dynamic, juicy, excellent tannins, savory finish.
It is enjoyable now but can age further. At meals it matches great stews, try it with stewed pork with plums and pine nuts.
