Bolgheri Rosato Scalabrone 2022
Scalabrone is a modern, fruity and supple rosé wine, perfect to be enjoyed at seaside as an aperitif or with fish appetizers. It has an elegant bottle that can also accompany a dinner. Since the 1970s Antinori has been producing rosé wine in Bolgheri and used to promote it with placards along the Aurelia road with the words “Bolgheri Rosé is produced here". Before the birth of modern red wines from Cabernet and Merlot, rosés were the most popular wines of Bolgheri. This tradition still lives in the Scalabrone, the Bolgheri rosé wine from Guado al Tasso, owned by the Marchesi Antinori. It is nowadays obtained with a blend of international grapes. The name "Scalabrone" refers to a bandit who lived in the upper Maremma area in the early 1800s who raided traders and donated part of the stolen goods to the needy.
The grapes for the Scalabrone rosé come from vineyards with loamy-clayey soil of predominantly alluvial origin, rich in pebbles. The grapes are harvested and processed separately according to the grape variety. They are crushed and left to macerate for 2-4 hours at a low temperature. They are then pressed and only the free-run pink colored must ferments in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature without the skins. Finally, the blend is made and the wine is bottled.
