Barbaresco 2017
In Daniele Cernilli's description in the Essential Guide to Italian Wines 2021, Socré's 2017 Barbaresco is described as "fairly agile in relation to the warm vintage, savory, some youthful tannic ripples that do not affect drinkability. Very well done." In a difficult year, Marco Piacentino, owner of the Socré winery, still could achieved excellent results. His Barbaresco hasn't missed a beat for some years now. The grapes all come from the vineyards around the farmhouse in the Roncaglie area in the township of Barbaresco. It has the taste that is expected from a great Barbaresco: pronounced, full-bodied, but still balanced and enjoyable and the bouquet is refined with floral and fruity aromas in evidence compared to the spicy and oaky ones.
The grapes are de-stemmed and fermented in contact with the skins. After racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for 18 months in second passage French oak barrels.
