Alto Adige Chardonnay Sanct Valentin 2020

Sanct Valentin is the line of excellence of the San Michele Appiano winery with careful selections from the best vineyards. Chardonnay Sanct Valentin is produced from grapes grown between 450 and 550 meters above sea level in the village of Appiano in Oltradige. The vineyards fasce south-east and south-west and have morainic soil, with a gravelly structure and porphyry components. The yields of less than 50 hectoliters of per hectare guarantee a powerful wine, destined for oak winemaking and an aging potential of over 10 years. Chardonnay has been cultivated in South Tyrol since the 1800s and is one of the vine varieties to which the San Michele Appiano Winery is most closely linked, as Chardonnay has found suitable conditions in its territory to create wines of great class. The first vintage of the Chardonnay Sanct Valentin was 1986 and since then it has enjoyed success thanks to its elegance and balance.

The harvest is manual and takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October. Only the best grapes are selected. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrique and tonneau; the wine also carries out malolactic fermentation and ages on the lees in barrique for about a year. Finally, the contents of all the barriques are blended and the wine ages in steel tanks for 8 more months before being bottled.
