50&50 Avignonesi Capannelle 2019
What do the percentages in the name mean? Soon said: 50% Sangiovese from Capannelle’s vineyards in Gaiole in Chianti and 50% Merlot from the Avignonesi’s vineyards in Montepulciano.
This wine was born in the 1980s, when experimentation was ruling and the Supertuscan wines become popular. The idea was to combine not only two grapes, such as Merlot and Sangiovese, but also to combine two excellent territories to create something new and unique. This wine comes from a joint venture between two companies: Capannelle contributes with its Sangiovese, grown on the high hills of Gaiole in Chianti; Avignonesi puts the Merlot grown in the territory of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
The wine ferments in oak vats at a controlled temperature with a maceration of about 25 days. Subsequently it matures for two years in French barriques.
